Ohio Valley: Heavy Wet Snow Event Expected Midweek..

Model data has been consistent in recent days showing the ejection of a fast moving upper level low pressure system out of the Southern Rockies on Tuesday resulting in an impactful storm system that looks to bring both rain and snow to much of the Central/Eastern US during the middle of the week.

Because of the absense of any really cold air, this looks to be either a cold rain or a wet snow for much of the reagion as a surface low pressure travels from the Lower Mississippi through the Ohio River Valley late Tuesday and Wednesday. The Euro weather model (below) shows a heavy swath of snow developing during the early morning hours on Wednesday across the Lower Ohio River Valley before a transition to light rain and drizzle as the low pulls in warmer air from the south.

On the north side of the system, a secondary area of heavy snowfall looks to develop across portions of Southern Illinois, Central Indiana and into Northern Ohio during the day on Wednesday and into Wednesday night.

Snowfall will be highly dependent on the path and strength of the low, but at this range, a swath of four to eight inches appears likely across portions of Central Indiana and into Northwest Ohio with lesser amounts on the order of one to four inches to the south to near the Ohio River.

Keep in mind, we are still three days out and some adjustments to this forecast can be expected with the exact path and intensity not known at this range. However, some difficult travel appears likely for those in line for the higher totals.
