On the heals of the big weekend storm system that brought flooding rains to parts of the Mid-South, widespread high-winds and heavy snows to the Great Lakes, the next in a long line of winter storms takes aim at the Central US this week. 

Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories have been posted across much of the region.  Who could be looking at a HALF FOOT of heavy-wet snowfall...

After a nice break from the harsh winter weather this past week, those old upper level winds begin to crank across Eastern North America again as we go throughout next week setting the stage for quite an active pattern once again with big storm potential.

The Famous Rodent Weather-Prognosticator was at it again this morning with yet another gloomy prediction for this winter season.  

The Groundhog, known as Punxsutawney Phil, who resides in the tiny village of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvannia in rural western parts of the Keystone State made his annual prediction this morning when he saw his shadow.  An occurrence which is supposed to bring six more weeks of winter, but will he be correct?  

Few people from these parts will forget what they were doing on January 25th/26th 1978. It was on that date that a historic winter storm formed and buried much of the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes region with historic amounts of snow and wind.  The snow piled as high as rooftops and in some cases entire interstate systems were shut down for days.
