Messy Weekend Storm on the Way.

Following a seasonably cold night ahead with a partly cloudy sky, temps look to warm into the lower 40's Thursday with considerable high clouds.  Clouds increase on Friday ahead of our next storm system due to arrive over the course of the weekend with continued melty afternoon highs in the lower 40's.

A slow moving and large upper level storm system looks to pay us a visit over the weekend with a good bet for a wintry mix of rain and snow developing Friday night turning over to the potential of a heavy wet snow for parts of the region.

Precipitation could be generous with a half inch to an inch forecast for much of the area (GFS below)

While it's too early to dial in those snowfall projections just yet, just know because surface temperatures look to be very marginal, there may be a very large range in snow totals from this storm with highest amounts perhaps focused into the higher terrain across the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier where locally a half foot or more may be possible.  For the Lake Plains, unless forecasted temperatures drop, accumulations could be limited to only a few inches.  We'll be monitoring closely over the next couple of days.

Discussing the model data and just how much snow they are pojecting PLUS be sure to catch our long range discussion, "Beyond the 7 Day", discussing the pattern as we wrap up your January and head into February in tonight Big Show.. #WxLIVE at 845.

Stay tuned.

Lisa and I will be back with a full update on how much snow to expect this weekend and when the cold will return on tonight's WxLIVE at 8:45!  See you then!
