Bomb Cyclone to produce Blizzard Conditions for MANY heading into Christmas Weekend..
Model data is coming into better agreement on placement and strength of a MAJOR winter storm that is set to impact much of the Eastern US late this week as we head into Christmas Weekend.
The latest run of the EURO weather model shows a rapidly deepening low pressure system moving out of the Middle MS River Valley Thursday night and into the Great Lakes oon Friday with widespread rain changing to snow and very gusty winds.
Although the finer details on exact path of this storm remains unclear, one thig is for certain, it will pack a punch. Medium range models strongly suggest this will be a "Bomb Cyclone" with surface pressure expecting to drop at least 24 mb in 24 hours as the low trackes across the Midwest Thursday night into Friday.
With that being said, widespread 45 to 60 mph appear likely for much of the Ohio Valley and into the Great Lakes.
As far as snowfall is concerned, here are current projections via the EURO and GFS..
Some HEAVY DUTY snow totals of a foot or more can be expected to the north of the track of the the low and lesser, but not insignificant, totals can be expected throughout the Ohio Valley and into Middle Appalachia.
The combination of heavy snowfall, very gusty winds and rapidly dropping temperatures will likely produce widespread blizzard conditions across portions of the region Thursday night through Friday creating hazardous travel heading into Christmas Weekend.
I'll be monitoring the situation closely over the next few days.
Stay tuned.
