Bomb Cyclone to Deliver a DANGEROUS Drop in Temps!
Powerful jet stream winds traversing down the spine of the Rockies look to displace an Arctic Airmass that will soon invade the Eastern US as we head into Christmas Weekend with some of the coldest conditions experienced in several years with wind chill readings expected to drop into the 20 to 40 degrees BELOW ZERO range!
On top of the frigid temperatures, the wind associated with the storm will make matters much worse for those caught out in the elements with widespread 40 to 60 mph wind gusts expected Thursday night through Friday across the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes.
The combination of subzero temperatures and high winds looks to cause an absolute CRASH in the apparent or "feels like" temperature falling from near 40 in the evening on Thursday to around -22 F by Friday morning across the Lower Ohio River Valley. That is a 60+ degree drop in only about 12 hours. YIKES!!
The extreme cold looks to envelop the entire Midwest and Great Lakes by early Saturday with subzero wind chill readings extending from the Mississippi River Valley all the way into interior portions of the Northeast.
Already, the National Weather Service has issued Wind Chill Advisories and Winter Storm Watches well in advance of Thursday's developing storm.
Parts of the region will likely be upgraded to Winter Storm and also Blizzard Warnings as a bomb cyclone continues to be advertised by the medium-range weather models.
I'll have updated snowfall projections for this system available tomorrow afternoon.
Stay tuned and stay safe!
