Winter Storm to Blast Plains.. Bringing Snow to Midwest/Lower Great Lakes.
Winter Storm Watches, Warnings and Advisories have been posted for parts of the Central Plains and Midwest for a storm that is expected to eject out of the Southern Rockies late tonight and tomorrow.
To the south, rain and a few strong thunderstorms can be expected to develop across the Southern Plains of Texas and Oklahoma. There is a Slight Risk for Severe Storms across the Red River Valley for the possibility of locally strong winds and hail.
As a surface low pressure spins up, snow looks to rapidly develop to the north into Western Kansas before spreading northeast into Nebraska, Iowa, Northern Illinois, Southern Wisconsin and into parts of the Lower Great Lakes.
While the system is expected ramp up quickly on Monday and drop intense snowfall for some in the Plains, the storm looks to weaken as it crosses through the Ohio Valley and into Appalachians on Tuesday.
However, there will be enough lift and cold air for some general light snows that will add up across portions of the Midwest and into the Eastern/Lower Great Lakes during that period of time.
Heavy snows to the tune of 12 to 18 inches appear likely at this time in the areas associated with the Winter Storm Warnings from Western KS, Southern Eastern NE and into parts of Iowa. Further East, the snows should diminish in intensity, however decent accumulations remain on the table for some.
Current thinking according to the latest Euro brings in a swath of generally 3 to 6 inches for much of Western and Central NY including Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse.
This will be enough to shovel and likely plow, but won't be enough to cause widespread problems.
