Pair of storms bringing a One-Two wintry Punch this weekend.

Pair of storms bringing a One-Two wintry Punch this weekend.

A rather WAVY jet stream pattern above us right now will keep things quite unsettled this weekend for much of the Great Lakes and North East.  The first wave responsible for the mild temps and rain earlier on Friday digs into the region tonight with some wind and rapidly dropping temps into your Saturday.  The second upper wave exiting the Northern Rockies arrives promptly on Sunday

Here's a look at the two systems via the Hi-Res Canadian Model showing the current storm exiting into early on Saturday and the next one arriving Sunday morning.

Yes, we are still talking about both rain (green) and some very late season snow now (blue).  While we could see some flurries or a few snow showers Saturday morning, the better chance will wait for the "clipper style" system to arrive early on Sunday.  It appears that temps will be just cold enough to support a wet snow event for parts of  Western New York.

The track appears to be far enough south to the majority of accumulations south of I-90 with little to no impact in Rochester.  However, heading south into the higher terrain across the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier could be a different story with some models (GFS below) projecting locally a half foot of heavy, wet snowfall.

Current forecast via the Weather Prediction Center is a bit more conservative with a general two to four across much of SW New York and lighter totals up to an inch or so for most of the Finger Lakes to near the 90 corridor.

Because of warm ground temps and a high sun angle, I don't expect any lasting impacts.
