FORECAST: No rest for the weary. ANOTHER winter storm is OTW!

We'll it's official.  This past weekend's mega-winter storm broke dozens of snowfall records across a vast section of real estate across the East-Central US with daily records being set in Kansas City, Cincinnati, Louisville and St. Louis.

No Rest for the Weary

As millions of American's continue to dig out, the next winter storm is already taking shape.  The European forecast model (shown below) depicts another powerful upper-level wind storm ejecting out of the Southern Rockies and into the Southern Plains Thursday and into Friday.

Unlike the last system, this looks to produce a surface low much further south along the Texas Gulf Coast on Thursday with a shield of heavy precipitation developing over eastern parts of the Lone Star State.

While areas like Houston and San Antonio look to get hit with heavy rain and strong storms, to the north into the Dallas Metro Plex a band of heavy snow looks to develop.

As the low zips to the east/northeast along the Gulf Coast, strong very strong jetstream winds look to energize the system while spreading heavy rain and snow far to the north during the day on Friday before exiting the Southeast on Saturday.

How much snow this time?

Unlike the most recent storm, this time the heaviest snowfall looks to take aim on the South with both the Euro and GFS (above panels) in good agreement showing a band of 6+ inches from SE OK/NE TX through Central AR and Northern Dixie and into the Southern and Central Appalachians where locally higher amounts will be possible.

To the north of that a general shield of moderately heavy snowfall on the order of two to six inches may be possible for parts of the Middle MS and OH River Valleys.

Moral of the Story:

We have a few days to fine tune this next round, but keep the snow shovel handy!
