Christmas Outlook: Busy Early Winter Pattern Setting Up!
A busy zonal pattern has developed in the upper level winds over the Northern Hemisphere. This will lead to a very active weather pattern as we head into the final week and a half before Christmas with a steady march of fast moving storm systems across the Continental United States.
The current run of the European Forecast Model shows the pattern over the next 10 1/2 days as we approach the big holiday with no less than a half dozen storm system set to bring batches of rain and snow to the Eastern US as temperatures oscillate back and forth between unseasonable warmth and unseasonable cold.
So what does this mean for the chances for snowfall?
What this means is that much of the Eastern US will experience quite a bit of precipitation with rain being the predominant precipitation type for areas like the Oho Valley and into the Mid-Atlantic. If you want snow, at least at this range, it looks to be confined to normal snow belt areas across the Upper Midwest, the Great Lakes and into interior portions of the Northeast.
We'll obviously have some time to fine tune this forecast. In the meantime, try to stay dry!
