Frost Advisories and Freeze Warnings issued for NY State
The National Weather Service has issued Frost Advisories and Freeze Warnings for much of the state of New York. These go into effect tonight and will represnet the first frost/freeze of the season for many.
The Frost Advisory includes much of the finger lakes and far Western NY, while the Freeze Warning includes the Southern Tier, East-Central NY and the North Country where temps are expected to dip into the upper 20's in some cases likely bringing an end to the growing season for some. For others, it might just be a case of bringing in those cold sensitive potted plants.
Closer to Lake Ontario, areas like Rochester, Albion and Niagara look remain sheltered from the coldest temps where areas north of I-90 are expected to remain frost free.
On average, Rochester sees it's first frost around October 14th while the Finger Lakes usually see it a little sooner during the first week or two of the month.
So this early season chill will arrive just about on time for much of the region. If you are looking forward to warmer times ahead, then look no further than later this weekend when temps could reach back into the low 70's on Sunday, although it will come with a chance for showers.
Enjoy.
