Plains storm system arrives Thursday. Updating severe risk.

The storm system repsonsible for all the severe weather across the Central US over the last few days pays a visit to the Great Lakes and Northeast on Thursday. 

This will bring a round of scattered showers before dawn and then the potential for a round of thunderstorms during the afternoon as a cool front sweeps into the region. 

Could these storms be strong?

With a decent amount of heating ahead of this system and low level moisture set to return as well instability values, measured by CAPE, look to run in the 1,000 to 1,500 range.  

This along with solid upper level wind shear should be supportive of storms capable of producing gusty winds and hail.  

The Storm Prediction Center agrees with this and has issued a very broad Slight Risk of sever weather across of the region including all of Western New York.
